Did you know that there are lots of words in English that come from Chinese? To see this list of "loan" words click here. In fact, the word typhoon comes from Chinese. In Chinese it literally means "big wind" and is pronounced "táifēng". Say tai with the second rising tone then feng with the first flat tone and put them together: Taifeng (台风).
